Apple is currently totally focused on the new iPad’s release. These will be the first new iPad models after 2022, when the company last launched new tablets.

The new iPad’s release date has also been subject to controversy. The new Apple tablets were initially speculated to launch in late March or early April.

The last rumor revealed May 6 as the announcement date, blaming the delay on the 2024 iPad Pro’s OLED panel.

Either way, Apple recently released the first iPadOS 17.5 developer’s beta, which seems to have confirmed the existence of the OLED iPad Pro and new “squeeze” features for the Apple Pencil 3.

Hints for the OLED panel for the upcoming iPad Pro models

The folks at 9to5Mac dug through the iPadOS 17.5 beta, released last week, and found references to the upcoming iPad models.

The references corroborate the new display technology for the new rumored iPad models.

Based on the references, the new iPad Pro models will be available in two sizes with Wi-Fi and Cellular options.

In addition, the code also reveals the new iPad Pro models will be equipped with OLED panels and corroborates two different suppliers for the 11-inch and 12.9-inch variants.

A recent DSCC report even revealed that the OLED panels for the 11-inch iPad Pro are in short supply.

While LG has taken complete charge of the OLED panels for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro model, both LG and Samsung will produce the same for the 11-inch models.

However, LG is lagging, which could result in a limited supply of the 11-inch model immediately after the launch.

A new Apple Pencil is also on the horizon with new features

Details of a new “squeeze” gesture for Apple Pencil were found last week in the iPadOS 17.5 beta.

However, the current Apple Pencil doesn’t have any pressure sensors on its surface, confirming the feature was for the rumored Apple Pencil 3.

Now, the folks at the 9to5Mac have found evidence of two more new gestures: “LongSqueeze” and “DoubleSqueeze.”

Again, the new features are speculated for the new Apple Pencil model, as the Apple Pencil 2 only supports a double-tap gesture and has no pressure sensors on its surface.

According to Bloomberg, the new OLED iPad Pro and iPad Air models will be released in the second week of May, alongside the redesigned Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil 3.
