Bird will now offer $25 monthly scooter rentals in select cities
If the program is successful, it will be expanded into additional locations.
Tired of tracking down nearby electric scooters to rent using your phone? Well, worry no more since Bird has your back, sort of (we will get back to that in a bit).
Bird is now offering monthly rentals of their battery-powered two-wheeler scooter for just $24.99 a month. The cherry on top is that the company will deliver the scooter right to your doorstep and then even pick it up once your rental period is over.
Now, coming to the ‘sort of ‘, the service is currently only available in two cities, San Francisco and Barcelona. However, if the service proves to be successful enough in these two cities the company will roll it out in other markets in the near future.
Bird made an announcement for a new concierge service last October and with the addition of monthly personal rentals, the deal becomes even more attractive. The company states;
After your order is placed, a Bird representative will follow up to confirm details and arrange for a personal Bird, charger, and lock to be delivered. When your rental period expires, Bird will come and pick up the vehicle, charger, and lock from your location.
This move is even more interesting when San Francisco’s current rules are brought into the picture
Currently, the city prohibits all scooter companies except two (Scoot and Skip) from providing dock-less e-scooters for rent. This policy was passed in August 2018 and was seen as a response to Bird and Lime for placing their e-bikes on the sidewalks of San Francisco without seeking the city’s permission.
Now, with this new rental service Bird does not need a permit from the city to operate their scooters by as they would be deemed a concierge service. Well played, Bird.
