Fitbit smartwatches are history, it’s all about the Pixel Watch now

Fitbit smartwatches are history. The brand’s future is now wrapped up in Google’s Pixel vision.

A watch displays text with a modern design, showing that it is 9:30 On Target with a body response of 00:15 32m today, indicating a 140% Moderate bpm at 10:11 and a Check In at 11 AM to 1 PM.

Fitbit’s smartwatch era is officially dead, and nobody’s really shocked.

The writing was on the wall the moment Google rolled out its first Pixel Watch back in October 2022. Google needed a homegrown rival to the Apple Watch, and Fitbit’s tech was the ticket.

Now, it’s official: Google has pulled the plug on Fitbit’s Sense and Versa smartwatches, reports TechRadar.

From here on out, Fitbit’s portfolio will be strictly fitness trackers like the Charge and Inspire. Any new smartwatch tech, fancy watch faces, or wellness features? Well, those are now exclusive to the Pixel Watch.

For longtime Fitbit users, this feels like a punch in the gut, but let’s be real — it was coming. The Fitbit Sense 2 was hailed for its wellness sensors and health insights, making it a favorite for those obsessed with tracking every heartbeat and calorie.

Now, owners of recent Fitbit smartwatches like the Sense 2 and Versa 4 are left wondering what’s next.

Google is nudging users to switch their Fitbit accounts to Google accounts, promising support through 2025. But who knows how long the hardware will last?

Don’t forget that Google has a history of deactivating features post-purchase. As The Verge recently reported, Wi-Fi support and local audio playback were already nixed from Sense 2 and Versa 4.

The list goes on: Earlier this year, Fitbit ditched community features like Challenges and Adventures from its app.

Meanwhile, the new Pixel Watch 3 comes with free access to some of Fitbit Premium’s best features, like daily Readiness Scores and Target Load.

So, what’s the future look like for Fitbit’s fitness trackers? Google quietly launched the Charge 6 and the Ace LTE for kids, and Peloton workouts are coming to the Fitbit app soon.

Maybe we’ll see a cheaper “Pixel Tracker” to balance out the pricey Pixel Watch. Or perhaps Google will keep Fitbit alive to battle Garmin and Amazfit in the fitness tracker arena.

Bottom line: Fitbit smartwatches are history. The brand’s future is now wrapped up in Google’s Pixel vision. Whether that means a slimmer product lineup or a total rebrand, one thing’s clear — it’s all about Pixel now.

What are your thoughts on the end of Fitbit’s smartwatch era and the shift towards fitness trackers under Google’s Pixel brand? Are you a longtime Fitbit user feeling the impact of these changes? We’d love to hear your opinions.
