If you are a PC gamer, shooter-genre fan, or a combination of both, then the chances are that you know what PUBG is. There is another battle royale game that is close to taking the crown, Fortnite: Battle Royale. Both games have similarities, differences, pros, cons, and everything else in between. There is a lot more to this question than “what’s better?”, and we will go through all of them. At the end of this, you will be able to make your own decision on which game is best for you.

Cost

Fortnite is a game developed by Epic Games and is based on the development company’s own Unreal Engine 4. On the opposite side, PUBG is developed by a smaller Bluehole and runs off of Epic’s Unreal engine. PUBG has been out on PC for months now and costs $40 for early access. Epic’s Fortnite costs $40 for early access as well, but the Battle Royale mode is free. With that in mind, Fortnite is available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, while PUBG is available only on PC and Xbox One.

Graphics

Graphics are one of the most significant issues for gamers, and I had this problem too. I had a problem taking Fortnite seriously due to it’s “arcadey, cartoon-ish” look and feel to it, while PUBG is much more realistic. Players in PUBG are much more difficult to detect, and gameplay is different. Gamers in Fortnite like to “run and gun” while playing for a high kill count, while PUBG players like to go slow and steady. I’ve run into way too many players camping in a house only to get shotgunned or sniped.

Both games are based on the same concept: 1 vs 100. You can play solo, duo, or squads, but the primary goal is to be the last alive. Both games have a “wall” that closes in on you that you need to stay inside to avoid damage. The point of the wall is to push players closer as the game draws to an end. Fortnite games are typically shorter than PUBG ones due to map size. Fortnite is fundamentally a different game because you can build forts and other obstacles. It’s a different take on a relatively new genre, and players love it. If you are looking for a more straightforward, tactical-based game, then you will find more of those attributes in PUBG.

One of the most significant issues with PUBG, at the moment, is the game’s functionality. There are tons of bugs and glitches in PUBG that ruin the game. Players often complain myself included, about missed hit markers, clipping, graphical glitches, hackers, and tons more.

Shooting in Fortnite feels smoother, but not as accurate. PUBG is a realistic shooter, so guns have recoil, bullet drop, wind adjustments, etc. just like real weapons. These features aren’t bad, as some gamers prefer a realistic experience. However, with how PUBG handles right now, your accuracy may fall short.

Maps

As of right now, PUBG has two maps while Fortnite only has one. PUBG has a more massive map while Fortnite‘s is roughly a third of the size. PUBG has different towns, terrains, environments, and vehicles while Fortnite has most of the same with a few exceptions. In PUBG, you fly across the map in a plane as players jump out to their desired location, and land with a parachute. On the opposite side, Fortnite has players fly across the map in a Battle Bus, and they land safely with an umbrella. Due to the map size in Fortnite, there aren’t any vehicles. To make up for this, Fortnite has items like the launcher pad that works like a trampoline.

Looting

Looting is essential in any battle royale game. Looting in Fortnite is very casual and simple to locate. All loot glows a specific color based on rarity, so it is easy to spot. Items and weapons are a lot easier to come by, as guns are spread out in PUBG across a bigger map. There is no armor in Fortnite, but there are shield potions. On top of your base 100 health, you can drink potions to double them. PUBG‘s game style is much more intense, so there are helmets, armor pieces, shoes, pants, boots, and everything else in between.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference. If you prefer a realistic experience with a tactical approach, then you should choose PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. If you enjoy games that are faster, action-packed, and unique, then you will fair better with Fortnite. If you are looking for an optimized game with a smooth experience, then you will be a better fit with Fortnite. For me to advise each person would enjoy is impossible, but you can always find out for yourself.
