Instagram rolls out Threads so you can annoy all your close friends with pictures of mundane stuff
I really don’t see the point of this.

We’ve been hearing rumblings of the new Instagram app, Threads, for a while now, but the new messaging app is rolling out to users everywhere today.
The “camera first” messaging app from Instagram will allow you to quickly send photos to an Instagram close friend or group of close friends.
Threads for Instagram seems pretty boring on the surface
The app isn’t yet available in the App Store, so I was unable to check it out for myself, sadly. It’s hard to know for sure how useful the app will be, but basically, it allows you to quickly send pictures to people you’ve set as “Close friends” on Instagram.
As Instagram puts it, “You can share photos, videos, messages, Stories, and more with your Instagram close friends list.” If you try to send a message to someone that doesn’t have you set as a close friend, the message will go into their traditional Instagram DMs.
The camera features included in Threads is a stripped-down version of what is already offered on Instagram, so no funny face filters for you. You’ll need to go back to regular Instagram or Snapchat for that.
You can also set status messages on your Threads account so your friends have an idea of what you are doing. There will also be an auto-status feature that uses location-based services to automatically put things in your status. For example, if you are at a coffee shop, it might show the little coffee mug emoji. No actual locations are listed, however, so that’s good.
Honestly, I’m failing to see the point of this, but I’ll reserve my final judgment until I can actually use the app for a bit.
