Last week, Instagram users were blessed with some good news as reports started surfacing regarding the addition of a basic multimedia feature which should have been featured in the app a long time ago.
Instagram is reportedly testing a seek bar on the app which will allow users to scroll backward or forwards through a video. This is not the first time Instagram has tested the feature, as select users had reported that Instagram was testing the feature back in 2017. This continued with short bursts of users being able to use the feature until Instagram completely stopped testing the feature in early 2018.

App researcher, Jane Manchun Wong discovered that Instagram was testing the feature again and she revealed this through a video uploaded to Twitter. Wong is known for discovering new features being tested in popular apps. Wong was responsible for many features being discovered, including features such as public collections and video co-watching,
In short, the feature will give users the basic ability to scroll through a video
You will be able to achieve this by simply sliding your finger along the sleek bar at the top of a video. Prior to this revelation, the feature was only available on IGTV, which is Instagram’s failed attempt at a YouTube competitor.
Currently, Instagram is making the feature available for only a select number of users, hence it could be a while before all users can get their hand on the feature. There is also a possibility Instagram completely stops testing the feature as they did back in 2018, so users shouldn’t celebrate just yet.
