10 new mobile games you absolutely should be playing in December

Trust us, you’ll thank us later.

It’s the holiday season and that means shopping, family gatherings and more turkey than you can shake a drumstick at. If you manage to get a quiet moment in all that madness, or if you really need to leave the room before you kill cousin Rodney – here are the games you should be playing this month.

Some are free to play, some might require a modest outlay of funds. We’ve left gacha games off this list, it’s the holiday so go spend that money on alcohol instead if you hate yourself that much.

Here are 10 of our favorite picks of new mobile games you should be playing this month:

Command & Conquer: Rivals PVP

  • Size: 141 MB
  • Price: Free
  • Genre: RTS

This might only be a fraction of the frenetic C&C experience that we grew up with, but hey we’ll take what we can get. If you’ve played Halo Wars 2‘s Blitz mode, you know what to expect here.

Collect tiberium to pay for buildings and units and send out your marauding forces. The battlefield has three zones on it, and you need to control two of those for a certain amount of time to fire a powerful nuke at the enemy command center.

Just be careful of the pay-to-win in-game purchase section when you’re in full Christmas Cheer, k?

Hexa Knot

  • Size: 64 MB
  • Price: Free
  • Genre: Puzzle | Playable offline

Hexa Knot feels like the digital version of those fiendish physical puzzles from the only cool stall at the local craft fair. With perseverance, you can tie off the loop in 500 levels. Deceptively simple, you move tiles around until all the colored lines connect in the correct pattern.

It’s pretty cathartic once you figure out the system behind it, so it’s perfect for unwinding at the end of the day.

Assassin’s Creed Rebellion

  • Price: Free
  • Genre: Strategy with RPG elements

In the same vein as Fallout Shelter, Assassin’s Creed Rebellion is a base-building strategy game. Upgrade your fortress, send out assassins on missions and create weapons and medicines to support your Brotherhood. Featuring a new version of the Animus, you can use Assassins from multiple time periods at the same time, while you rage against the Templar order.
