LG Uplus, LG’s subsidiary, has partnered with Samsung to develop an advanced AI-focused smartphone.
According to The Korean Economic Daily (via Sammobile), this collaboration centers on combining LG Uplus’s AI-based voice assistant, ixi-O, with Samsung’s AI technologies.
The aim is to create a real AI phone that offers more than typical AI integrations.
A special AI phone from Samsung and LG that you can’t buy
In 2021, LG exited the smartphone market after struggling with poor reviews and a lack of widespread consumer interest.
Once a notable competitor in the industry, LG then shifted its focus to other ventures, such as display technology.
While LG’s return to the smartphone market seemed unlikely, these recent developments indicate the possibility of a unique LG phone collaboration with Samsung.
The upcoming device, which could be called the Galaxy ixi-O, will likely debut as an exclusive offering for LG Uplus users.
The company introduced ixi-O earlier this month, which is a personal AI agent exclusive to Korea.
The AI can answer calls, detect voice phishing in real time, record and summarize calls, and transcribing voice conversations into text—all processed directly on the device for improved security and efficiency.
Plans are in place to extend similar AI services to other South Korean mobile carriers over time, but the phone is unlikely to reach international markets.
The Galaxy ixi-O is expected to launch alongside Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series, which could be unveiled on January 22, 2025, with the AI smartphone hitting the market within the first quarter of 2025.
LG’s renewed focus on AI-driven innovation highlights a broader shift in its strategy.
The company plans to showcase its advancements and AI-focused business strategies during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in March 2025, highlighting its commitment to exploring new technology.
It’s unlikely that this phone will see a debut outside South Korea, so we wouldn’t recommend you have high hopes to grab this special device.
