Microwaves have basically become a way of life for many of us, so it makes sense that Amazon would find its way into the microwave market.
Announced today at Amazon’s second annual fall event, the microwave comes to us in the form of an AmazonBasics product and, of course, Alexa will be baked-in. Or should I say microwaved-in? It will be priced at $59.99 and units ship on November 14, 2018.
How will Alexa commands work with the microwave?
To use the unit, simply wake it up with an Alexa command and then say the desired cook time. You’ll also be able to say things like “frozen peas,” and the microwave will pick the appropriate settings and time and do the work for you. An Alexa button can also be found on the device, letting you bypass the wake phrase.
With Alexa built-in, the technology is already present that could allow Amazon to push updates and improvements that would allow for even more functionality in the future.

Looking at some of the more basic features, the microwave will be 700 watts with 10 different power levels and features a turntable and child lock. I mean, it’s a microwave, you’ve used one before. You know what to expect.
And because humans are lazy, there will even be an Amazon Dash button on the unit that lets you instantly order popcorn.
The AmazonBasics smart microwave is now available for pre-order on Amazon for $59.99.
What do you think? Will you be purchasing one or is this just ridiculous? Let us know below.
