Assassin’s Creed Shadows: what’s the plot?

Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues the millennia-old conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood, who fights for peace and liberty, and the templars, who also seek peace but through control.

The game is set in 16th-century Japan at the end of the Sengoku period with two playable protagonists: Fujibayashi Naoe, who is a female ninja or a kunoichi, and Yasuke, an African samurai inspired by an actual historical figure of the same name.

Unlike the Frye Twins from 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, these two characters have very different playstyles, allowing players to handle quests in multiple different ways.
