Samsung SmartTags don’t need regular charging. Instead, they use a user-replaceable battery, just like AirTags.
In this guide, we will cover everything you need to know about the Samsung SmartTag battery performance.
That includes the type of battery used, how long it lasts, how to check the battery level, and how to replace the battery when it runs out.
How long does a Samsung SmartTag battery last?
According to Samsung, a SmartTag’s CR2032 battery can last for about a year. The UWB-equipped SmartTag+ can last for about half that time period.
It’s worth noting that these are best-case estimates from the manufacturer. Real-world battery life will vary and will be shortened if you’re often using your phone to find your SmartTags.
How do I check my SmartTag battery?
Open the Smartthing app
Go to the Devices tab
Find the Battery section
It’s likely that you won’t need to check the battery level, as your SmartTag will start beeping when the battery gets to a critically low level. That’s when it’s time to change the battery.
Replace the SmartTag battery
Replacing the battery in a Samsung SmartTag is a simple process. Here’s how:
- Using your fingertip or a guitar pick or other similar device, pull on the opening at the bottom of the SmartTag.
- Remove the old battery from the SmartTag.
- Insert a new CR2032 battery into the SmartTag, making sure that the positive (+) side of the battery is facing up.
- Snap the back cover back into place.
- The SmartTag is ready to use again.
Why does my SmartTag battery drain fast?
Samsung SmartTag Battery may drain faster than the expected behavior. The main reason is that using your Galaxy device to find the SmartTag more often will result in faster battery drain.
It could also point to an issue with your SmartTag, as having to replace the battery much sooner than expected could mean it’s defective. Using your SmartTag at extreme temperatures is also not good for battery life.
Samsung SmartTag battery life isn’t the best
Samsung SmartTags don’t have a good reputation when it comes to battery performance.
Though Samsung uses the same battery type as other major players in the industry, the battery life of its SmartTags is lower than the competition.
Maybe the SmartTag 2 will fix this issue when it is released later this year.
