In an interesting new twist, Snap has added the ability to control Snapchat Lenses using voice commands. The new feature, which includes new AR lenses, will animate when you say simple, English words such as “hi,” “love,” “no,” and “wow,” according to TechCrunch.
As the report explains,
For example, saying “hi” in the new lens will launch an animation that surrounds you with a flock of chatty birds; “love” will play cheesy jazz music; “yes” creates a zoom effect; “no” puts you in an infinite photo tunnel; and “wow” puts a bow on your head and surrounds you with the word.
Snapchats Lenses with audio isn’t new. However, this is the first time the service has created lenses that recognize words and then use that understanding to perform an action.
At launch, Snapchat plans on uploading five to six special lenses for this purpose beginning today, Aug. 1. You should be able to update the app and use the new voice features now.
SnapChat Lenses have grown popular on the service as new features have been added. In May, for example, Snapchat introduced a new lens that reacts to what it sees and hears. The lens, an animal mask overlay for your face, includes ears that pulse and glow and eyes that move based on the sounds it hears from your phone’s microphone.
Earlier this year, Snapchat began running unskippable ads and recently introduced a new gaming service.
