Samsung introduced two types of trackers back in 2021: SmartTag and SmartTag+. These trackers work exclusively with Samsung Galaxy devices.

However, not every Galaxy device works with each SmartTag.

The base Galaxy SmartTag is compatible with almost all Samsung Galaxy phones released recently. They must have 2GB of RAM, and run Android 8.0 (Oreo) or higher.

The Samsung SmartTag+ and SmartTag2 also work with these Galaxy phones, but there is a catch. You will not be able to use one particularly helpful feature: UWB-powered AR Finding.

Only a handful of Samsung Galaxy phones currently support ultra-wideband (UWB).

What about other Android Devices?

Do Samsung SmartTags work with other Android devices?

Nope, Samsung SmartTag, SmartTag2 and SmartTag+ are not compatible with other Android phones, including devices from Google, LG, Motorola, and more.

Galaxy SmartTags also won’t work with iPhones or iOS devices.

If you want to invest in a personal tracker that works with both iOS and Android, the best option is Tile.

Galaxy SmartTags are designed for Galaxy users

Samsung SmartTag, SmartTag2, and SmartTag+ are designed to work exclusively within the Galaxy ecosystem.

That’s not the norm for Android accessories, which are usually created to work with any phone running Android.

Clearly, Samsung wants to go up against the mighty AirTag, which only works with iOS devices. If any Android manufacturer has enough name recognition to do so, it’s Samsung.
