Apple’s new budget iPhone, the iPhone 16e (formally the iPhone SE) is here, confirming earlier predictions.
It features a refreshed design that removes the Home button and replaces Touch ID with Face ID. The device is powered by the latest A18 chip, providing better performance and support for Apple Intelligence. The starting price is $599.
Key Features:
- AI Integration: Built with Apple Intelligence tools for enhanced AI capabilities.
- Display Size: 6.1-inch display screen.
- No Home Button: Uses facial recognition for unlocking.
- Improved Battery and Camera: Compared to the iPhone SE.
- Availability: Pre-order starts on Friday, available in stores on February 28, 2025.
- Price: Starting at $599.
It’s official: the Home button is dead
The iPhone 16e has the 2022 iPhone 14 design, meaning the front-facing cameras required for Face ID are under a notch instead of Apple’s Dynamic Island.
Additionally, there is the first-ever Apple-designed 5G modem, known as the C1, which Apple asserts is the most energy-efficient modem ever used in an iPhone.

The new iPhone 16e features a 6.06-inch OLED display, a customizable Action Button, and the latest A18 chip with Apple Intelligence support.
It looks eerily similar to the standard iPhone 16 models except for its size and the notch.
There are also major differences with the standard iPhone 16 models, such as no Dynamic Island, no MagSafe support, and only a single 48MP rear camera.
Apple has permanently removed the Lightning port. Unlike previous SE models, the iPhone 16e features a USB-C port.
The iPhone 16e officially launches on February 28, and pre-orders kick off on February 20.
Additionally, it’s available in two colors—Black and White—and offered with three storage options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The starting price is $599.
