Rumors of a slimmer Galaxy Z Fold 6 have been making waves for a while. However, recent whispers suggest the device will be called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition.
And now, a new leak has appeared, showing off the device.
An alleged image of the so-called Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition has appeared online, courtesy of Android Headlines, and highlights a few noticeable differences with Samsung’s upcoming book-style foldable.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition: Not So Special
Based on previous rumors, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition will be thinner than the recently launched standard model.
The Special Edition variant is rumored to be 10.6 mm thick when folded and 4.9 mm when unfolded. In contrast, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6 measured 12.1 mm when folded, which is quite minor.
Based on the image, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition has the same boxy design as the original, but the corners are a bit more rounded, and the back has a brushed metal finish.
The outlet notes that Samsung could add a thin layer of glass to the metal finish to provide additional protection.
A previous rumor also suggested that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition could sport a titanium rear panel, a first for Samsung. However, the rumor further elaborated that Samsung still hasn’t made a decision, and whether or not Samsung decided in favor of titanium hasn’t been confirmed yet.
It is impossible to gauge the material just from a leaked device image. So, we won’t know for sure until Samsung makes an official announcement.
The camera array also looks different. As for the cameras themselves, a previous rumor claimed that Samsung would upgrade the under-display camera for the Special Edition.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition will have a 5MP UDC, up from 4MP, for better sharpness and detail. The outlet also suggests that Samsung may add a 200MP primary sensor to its back.
By the looks of it, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition doesn’t seem so special at all. It is only marginally thin, not even close to the thinnest book-style foldable on the market. However, the rumored upgraded camera system could do some justice to the “Special “Edition” moniker.
Regardless, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition isn’t for the global markets. It is rumored to arrive in South Korea on September 25 at 2.8 million ($2,100).
