OnePlus is gearing up for the much-anticipated launch of its inaugural foldable smartphone, with earlier leaks hinting at a rollout scheduled for next month.
Intriguingly, until now, the name of this first-ever foldable device from OnePlus remained under wraps. Previous speculations have thrown around monikers like ‘OnePlus Fold’ or ‘OnePlus V Fold,’ but none has been confirmed as definitive.
However, that might just have changed. A recent tweet by tipster Max Jambor claims that OnePlus’s upcoming foldable smartphone will be called ‘OnePlus Open.’
What do you think about the name OnePlus Open?
Jambor’s claim isn’t baseless, as ‘OnePlus Open’ was previously spotted in an EUIPO listing dated April 27, 2023.
The company also registered several other names, including ‘OnePlus Edge,’ ‘OnePlus Peak,’ ‘OnePlus Wing,’ and ‘OnePlus Prime.’
Regardless, it’s refreshing to see OnePlus charting its own course with its foldable smartphone naming strategy, steering clear of generic conventions like ‘Fold‘ and ‘Flip‘ that Samsung uses.
Reportedly set to debut next month, the OnePlus Open is touted as a flagship-level foldable smartphone boasting top-tier specifications.
Rumored specifications for the device include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a large 7.8-inch OLED internal folding display, and a handy 6.3-inch OLED external screen.
Moreover, the OnePlus Open is anticipated to pack a robust 4,800 mAh battery coupled with speedy 67W wired charging capabilities. The rest of its specs have already been unveiled in an earlier leak.
However, what’s truly intriguing is that Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event is just weeks away, where they’ll be launching the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Judging from its rumored specs alone, it’s evident that OnePlus Open is gearing up to give the Z Flip 5 some serious competition.
