Open your garage door opener

Open the light cover on your garage door opener. If you have a wall-mounted unit, open the front cover.

Find the learn button

Look for the learn button. It’s large, should be glowing, and is round in shape. The other two buttons nearby are for raising and lowering the door.

Press the learn button

Push the learn button down for at least six seconds. The LED will go off, or you might hear two clicks to let you know the unit is in learning mode. Some models might need you to repeat this step two or three times to clear the memory fully.

Check if settings are reset

Press any key on your remote control to test if the reset worked. If nothing happens, your garage door opener is back to its factory settings.

Program older Chamberlain garage door opener remotes

For older models, you will first have to put the remote in pairing mode before you start.

  1. For instance, if you have a 390 Mhz Security+ Garage door opener, you would have to press it 3 times and then press any other button on the remote. The LED light will now be turned off.
  2. Next, bring the remote close to the motor housing and press the Learn button on the motor unit. Press the desired button on the remote, and wait for a blinking light or a click sound.
