For most Chamberlain garage door openers, all you need is the remote and to open the cover on your garage door opener.

  1. Open your garage door opener

    Open the light cover on your garage door opener. If you have a wall-mounted unit, open the front cover.

  2. Find the learn button

    Look for the learn button. It’s large, should be glowing, and is round in shape. The other two buttons nearby are for raising and lowering the door.

Program older Chamberlain garage door opener remotes

  1. For instance, if you have a 390 Mhz Security+ Garage door opener, you would have to press it 3 times and then press any other button on the remote. The LED light will now be turned off.
  2. Next, bring the remote close to the motor housing and press the Learn button on the motor unit. Press the desired button on the remote, and wait for a blinking light or a click sound.
