It’s possible we now have the codename for the PlayStation 5

The God of Darkness and Shadows could herald the coming of the PlayStation 5.

With rumors swirling around Microsoft and Sony and when their next consoles will finally release, rumor mills are cranking up and theories abound. That is about to ramp up quite a bit it seems with a recent finding in the code of the latest update to the Unreal Engine 4.

There are also other mentions of Erebus throughout the code, and while some might consider it a wild goose chase, let’s look at it like this – Sony has used Greek names to codename their consoles before, so why not bring a god that personifies darkness and shadows into play?

Granted, previous consoles that used Greek deities were all PlayStation 4 consoles, including the PSVR and Pro, leading some to believe that we are going to see yet another reimagining of the console that originally released in 2013. But c’mon, what else can they really do with the aging console at this point?

But, wait, there’s more! Erebus is one of the first five siblings that include Gaea, Tartarus, Eros, and Nyx. So, PlayStation 5 confirmed?

With Microsoft reportedly hard at work on Scarlett, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Sony prepping things for their own next-generation console. Microsoft’s next foray into consoles could include a traditional console, but also a streaming box of sorts that could be a step towards our inevitable future of mainstream game streaming.

What do you think? Does this code mean anything? Are you ready for a PlayStation 5? Let us know in the comments?
