You’re pretty much in one of two camps when it comes to the latest smartphone craze – the infamous notch. Either you think it’s a step forward and towards a completely bezel-free front or you think it’s an eyesore and an abomination.
I fall somewhere in the middle, I suppose, but Google understands that the notch isn’t for everyone and Pixel 3 XL owners will have the ability to hide the notch.
First discovered by Engadget, and through a tweet convo, there will be an option to hide that the notch with a black bar that spans across your screen.
Check out the tweet:
For people who prefer a more traditional smartphone look, we’ve added an option to hide the display cutout (the notch).

Currently available in Android P developer options
This functionality is already available through Android P developer options, but from the tweet above, I assume there will be an easier way to add the bar at some point in the near future.

At present, the black bar simply pushes down the time and notifications and puts them below the notch. No word yet if there will be an option to include the notifications within the black bar, but we’ve reached out to Google to see if the company can clarify.
