During Nintendo’s Nindies Showcase which highlights indie games that are coming to the Nintendo Switch, one surprising addition was announced – Cuphead is coming to the portable console.
Originally released on the Xbox One and PC, Cuphead is a brutal sidescroller that has you playing as – you guessed it – a cup. The game uses an old-school cartoon art style and plenty of platforming goodness for those that like a challenge. It will be available for the Switch on April 18.
The story, as explained in our review, is a simple one:
The premise of Cuphead is a simple but a cheesy one – Cuphead and Mugman venture out too far, find a casino, roll the dice, lose, and wind up becoming the Devil’s henchmen to save their souls.

With the title coming to Nintendo Switch, it’s one of the first examples of Microsoft and Nintendo’s future collaborative efforts. In a post from Microsoft, the company talks about its collaborative efforts with StudioMDHR, the team behind Cuphead.
The post goes on to state that “we are partnering with StudioMDHR to investigate bringing Xbox Live features beyond Xbox and PC to Nintendo Switch.”
In regards to the big picture, it is still unclear on what extent Microsoft wants to work with Nintendo, but maybe this means we will see Microsoft’s Project xCloud come to the portable Nintendo Switch.
