Can the PlayStation 5 play DVDs?

But all PlayStation 5 consoles are not created equal. This is important if you are still in the market for a new console.

The Standard Edition PlayStation 5 includes the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive. You’re going to need that to play DVDs.

The PS5 Digital Edition doesn’t come with a disc drive, so get a Standard Edition if you want to play any physical media.

How to play DVDs on the PS5

Playing DVDs on your PS5 can be done in a snap. Simply connect the console to the internet to download the latest updates.

After that, insert the DVD into the disc drive of your Standard Edition PS5. A new menu option (shown above) will pop up. Select that to start your DVD on your official PS5 DVD player.
