Last month, a promotional video for Sony’s Xperia 5 V leaked, showcasing the company’s upcoming smartphone from different angles in multiple colors.
Now, the company has officially revealed the launch date for the next Sony Xperia. The Japanese tech company usually releases its Xperia 5 series smartphone in the second half of the year, and this year, it’s going to be the Sony Xperia 5 V.
Sony has chosen September 1 as the official launch date for the Xperia 5 V. The event will be held on the first day of the IFA 2023 at 9 AM CEST/3 AM ET. The live stream below is scheduled for September 1 on YouTube.
So, if you are a Sony fan from the United States, you’ll have to be up early to watch the Xperia 5 V launch live. The phone will launch exactly a year after its predecessor, the Sony Xperia 5 IV.
Sony Xperia 5 V: What we know so far
The Xperia 5 V will be Sony’s second flagship smartphone of the year. The company launched the Xperia 1 V back in May.
In contrast, Sony’s Xperia 5 series devices are cheaper and a bit more compact compared to the X 1 series flagships. However, both series get top-tier hardware. The Sony smartphone is also expected to sport Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship chipset.
Sony’s strength has always been its cameras. We expect the Xperia 5 V to blow our minds with its dual-camera setup. This is the first time a Sony flagship is coming with a dual camera setup. The company has ditched the telephoto shooter altogether and is sticking to primary and ultrawide only.
Although a video had leaked last month showcasing the Xperia 5 V, Sony kept almost all the specs under wraps. According to the video, the Sony Xperia 5 V will feature thick bezels at the top and bottom of the screen. The selfie camera also has a punch-hole cutout, and the 3.5mm headphone jack is coming back.
We expect the 5 V to feature a 6.1-inch OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, the same as last year’s Xperia 5 IV. The video also showed the device in three colorways: Black, White, and Blue/Gray.
