AirPods and AirPods Max may not get USB-C versions until 2024

Only a USB-C case for AirPods Pro is coming at this time.

Apple is all set to introduce the iPhone 15 series and the new Apple Watch models at the “Wonderlust” event tomorrow. And this year, we are getting one of the biggest changes in the history of iPhones.

Apple is finally switching from Lightning to USB-C, and it was implied the company would launch the USB-C versions of AirPods alongside, or soon after the new iPhones.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is not ready to transition its entire headphone lineup to USB-C at Tuesday’s iPhone 15 launch.

Based on previous rumors, the AirPods Pro is definitely getting the USB-C case upgrade. However, the same cannot be said for the lower-end AirPods and the more expensive AirPods Max. We may have to wait until 2024.

No USB-C AirPods 3rd Gen this fall

While we expect Apple to unveil the AirPods Pro with the new USB-C case at tomorrow’s event, any hardware upgrades are not expected.

It will be the same AirPods Pro, but you will be able to charge it and your new iPhone 15 with the same cable.

iOS 17 is expected to bring a few new software features like Adaptive Audio and Personalized Volume, but don’t expect any hardware changes.

Understandably, it’s pretty disappointing, but at least AirPods Pro is getting more attention from Apple than its cheaper and more expensive siblings.

The situation is even more disappointing for the AirPods Max. It debuted back in 2019 and is currently lagging behind its competitors in terms of hardware. Waiting for the next generation might be better as it may bring more than just USB-C.

On the other hand, the cheaper AirPods are the most popular, and Apple is going to make fans wait till next year for the USB-C version.

Although Apple is not afraid of selling two different variants of the same product, it already sells two versions of the AirPods 3rd generation: one with a Lightning charging case and one with a MagSafe Charging Case.

However, all is not lost. You are still getting an iPhone with a USB-C port this year and an updated USB-C version of the AirPods Pro, and if you are an AirPods 3rd Gen fan, hold on for a few more months.
