It’s no secret, the Tesla Model 3 is not cheap by any stretch. Sure, it’s the most affordable option out of their whole lineup, but still, even cheapest version of the Model 3 is going to run you almost $43,000.

Sure, it’s not insanely expensive, but $43K is $43K – am I right? Well, if you’re like most people and don’t have that kind of scratch to throw around, word on the street is that Telsa is working on a leasing option for the Model 3.

The news comes from Electrek as one of their sources claim that Tesla sent out an email to employees earlier this week stating that they would have the ability to lease the Model 3 within a couple of weeks.

When Electrek reached out to Tesla for further comment and clarification on this new leasing program, the company confirmed it but said the dates they had in the email are not finalized.

Here’s what a Tesla spokesperson told Electrek in a recent statement:

This is simply an internal document to ensure teams are prepared for when we eventually introduce a leasing option to customers. No decision has been made about when Model 3 leasing will be available, but it will definitely be after the dates outlined in this document.

Having a leasing option available to the Model 3 would be amazing and I imagine a lot of folks would jump at this opportunity. Leasing is great for some, but not always the best option for others.

According to Tesla’s CFO, Deepak Ahuja,  leasing represents only about 20% of Model S and Model X sales. However, if and when this option is made available for the Model 3, I can imagine that number being extremely higher.

Would you lease a Model 3? Have any thoughts on this? Let us know down below in the comments or carry the discussion over to our Twitter or Facebook.
