GTA San Andreas is coming to Oculus because it’s one of Zuckerberg’s favorites

It’s still early in development and we don’t have a release date yet.

Just in case you were thinking that Rockstar hasn’t milked enough money from its insanely popular GTA franchise, we’re getting yet another port of one of the series’ most popular games. After literally no one asked, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is coming to the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset.

During yesterday’s Facebook Connect live stream, where the company revealed its new name that is so ridiculous that only Zuckerberg himself could have come up with it, the company also announced that it was bringing the PlayStation 2 classic to the Oculus Quest.

“This new version of what I think is one of the greatest games ever made will offer players an entirely new way to experience this iconic open world in virtual reality,” said Zuckerberg in his presentation. Looks like the lizard-king himself personally requested for this 15-year-old game to get an Oculus Quest 2 port.

All jokes aside, it will be interesting to see what an Oculus Quest 2 port of GTA: San Andreas looks like. The game originally came out in 2004, so graphics and mechanics are a little lackluster by today’s standards.

But Rockstar has recently announced a full remake of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, which includes San Andreas, so maybe there will be some significant improvements included in the Oculus port.

As for when we could expect to see this port, there’s no timeline. Yesterday’s presentation was just a reveal that the two companies are currently working on the port, so it may still be a while before the game is actually released.
